As regular readers will know, a new month means a chance for you to win a game! For March, I’m doing a Beasts of Maravilla Island giveaway, and you don’t want to miss out on this. I actually played this game myself last year, and I was really impressed with it. It bears some similarities to Pokémon Snap which came out around the same time, but there are notable differences too. There’s a large focus on exploration, and although the visual assets are less detailed, there’s a charm to their simplicity.
I played on Xbox One X, but I know that not everyone will have a console. I try to make my giveaways more accessible, and so you’ll have the chance to win a Steam copy. There are sometimes codes for consoles, though, so don’t fret if you don’t own Steam. In fact, there’s currently a Moto Roader MC giveaway for a console of your choice! Anyway, let’s get back to the Beasts of Maravilla Island giveaway! All the details on entry are at the end of the article, but first I want to talk about the game.
Beasts of Maravilla Island
If you enjoy games with mysterious lore, multiple areas, and compelling visuals, Beasts of Maravilla Island should be right up your alley. This indie game has so much depth and joy to it! The developers have been really imaginative about creating a range of animals and plants for you to photograph. I love that the focus of this game is taking pictures. It makes a relaxing change to games where you have to fight everything. In many ways, this game actually reminds me of Omno, as both titles involve exploring new levels and filling a journal with the flora and fauna that you discover. I think it’s fantastic that there are several unique biomes. Each one comes with a completely different colour scheme, and it’s beautiful to behold. The creatures and plants are matched perfectly with the biomes they’re in.
Beasts of Maravilla Island also employs several fun gameplay mechanics. You can interact with your environment to solve puzzles and unlock new areas. For example, some plants are light activated and cause a beanstalk to grow! You can explore everywhere in an area, and I enjoy having that freedom. Being able to climb into the trees to find new animals is very exciting.
There’s also a compelling story that runs throughout the game, and I love learning about the lore. The game takes roughly 3 hours to complete, but that’s just for the main storyline. You can then go back into the various levels to complete all the quests. You have multiple tasks to finish, and it would take many more hours to get all the achievements.
