Traversing your way through the Netflix catalogue can be difficult… Luckily we’re here to help! With so many great shows available, it can be tough to decide what to watch, so let’s narrow it down. This time, we’re looking for the best Netflix show beginning with B.
Best Netflix Show Beginning With B – The Contenders
Now, one of the most well-known shows on Netflix is Black Mirror. It was already a hit within the Sci-fi community, and gained extra popularity after releasing the interactive experience, Bandersnatch. If you haven’t already, I’d certainly recommend giving Bandersnatch a go, as it’s a fascinating new way to consume media. I’d love to see more shows have an interactive element. The show itself is weird and wonderful, and it’s perfect for people who like to philosophise.
If you’re into anime, then there are a whole host of options. Black Lagoon, Blue Exorcist, and Black Butler are but a few of the many offerings. Also, whilst not technically animes, Big Mouth and Bojack Horseman are popular comedy cartoons aimed at adults. If you prefer live action, but want something international, then Beyond Evil could be a great addition to your list. It’s a Korean drama following the unravelling of a cold case murder. The acting is great, and the story’s compelling, so it’s well worth a watch.
Okay, so if you haven’t heard of Breaking Bad then you’ve probably been living under a rock for the past decade. I expect you thought this would win, and it very nearly did. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul do a phenomenal job of bringing the characters to life. The story is gripping and intense, and there’ll be no shortage of people willing to discuss it with you. However, there can only be one winner for the best Netflix show beginning with B, and that is…
Brooklyn Nine Nine
This wasn’t even a hard choice for me. Brooklyn Nine Nine is brilliant and deserves all the praise in the world. It’s one of my favourite shows of all time, almost certainly in my top 10. The humour is fantastic and original, and the cast of characters really make the show. They’re equal parts goofy and endearing, and you find yourself rooting for their success.
Set in a police department, the show doesn’t shy away from responsibility, especially in the later seasons. As tensions between the police and the public have risen in the past few years, the show has become more socially aware. The earlier seasons were light-hearted for the most part, but the later seasons address serious issues. They cover racism within the police force, and how women can be abused by their employers.
It also has a pretty diverse cast of characters, which is great to see. Crime shows of the past were often dominated by whiteness, whereas these days many police shows feature POC. It’s not just empty tokenism either, and every character serves a purpose in the show. Brooklyn Nine Nine derives most of its humour from the way characters interact with each other. That means that the episodes get funnier the more you watch them, as you get to know the characters better.
Overall
There are many excellent comedy shows out there, but Brooklyn Nine Nine is undeniably one of the best, and I feel confident announcing it as the best Netflix show beginning with B.
