Best of Netflix A-Z: E is for…

With such a wide range of shows available on Netflix, it can be hard deciding what to watch. But not to fear, this Netflix A-Z is here to make things that bit easier for you. I use the UK list of shows, but most of these are available internationally. The Netflix catalogue has such a wide range available, so I try to pick shows from different genres. However, there can only be one winner, so once I narrow down the contenders, I will announce my pick for the best Netflix show beginning with E!

The Contenders

Now, there are relatively few shows for E, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some good ones in there. As usual, I’m excluding all the ones beginning with ‘The’, as I’ll be doing a separate entry for those shows later on in this series. So, let’s take a look at my top picks!

If you don’t mind subtitles/ dubbed audio, then Elite could be worth checking out. It’s a Spanish thriller set in an elite secondary school, and deals with some intense subject matters. There’s relationship drama, characters finding themselves, and some intriguing mystery elements. The show also uses clever cinematography techniques to really immerse you in the story. Elite has proven to be very popular not just in Spain, but internationally. Who knows, you could be its next biggest fan!

If you want something a bit lighter, you might enjoy Everything Sucks. It’s got a cast of really colourful characters, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. There’s a real coming of age story, and you’ll find yourself growing attached to the various people that populate the town of Boring where the show is set. It’s a comedic drama, and whilst there are some really funny moments, the plot is the star. Unfortunately, it did only get 1 season.

Everything Sucks show.
The show was funny and awkward, and therefore relatable.

For all you true crime junkies, you can’t miss out on Evil Genius. I love a good murder documentary, and I have to say, this was one of my favourites. The way the story develops is really engaging, and the inclusion of real security footage adds to the excitement. It’s well worth a watch if this is a format that appeals to you.

However, there can only be one winner, and my choice for the best Netflix show beginning with E is…

Erased

I enjoy anime every now and then, but I’m not a super fan by any stretch of the imagination. However, Erased stood out to me so much that I had to give it first place. It’s such a uniquely compelling and gripping tale, that I think everyone should watch it. Whether or not you usually enjoy anime, I feel like Erased is worth going out of your comfort zone for.

The story is told through the eyes of Satoru Fujinuma, who has developed the ability to travel back in time. It’s an ability that he has little control over, and he finds himself transported back to his childhood days. We find out that one of his classmates had been tragically murdered in the original timeline, and Satoru is determined to set it right. He sets his mind to discovering what happened, and to save her.

Erased has brilliant characterisation, and it’s got loads of light-hearted and funny moments. It’s so interesting to see an adult Satoru in his childhood body. He has to just go to school and hang out with his old friends, without arousing suspicion. And of course, he has to deal with the fact that nobody listens to a child. There are also some heart-warming moments that will really touch you.

I won’t give spoilers, but the plot is exciting and fast-paced, with an incredible twist at the end. Even if you don’t enjoy anime, this is a good one if you like thrillers and cute stories. I know it sounds like an odd combination, but it works so well. Erased definitely earns its place as the best Netflix show beginning with E.

Best Netflix show beginning with E, Erased anime
The characters are all so cute and well written.
