Best of Xbox Game Pass A-Z: G is for…

It’s well established by now that Xbox Game Pass is probably the best value for money around when it comes to gaming. You get access to hundreds of titles, including AAA stunners and indie gems. However, with such a large library it can be tough to decide what to play, hence why I’ve created this A-Z series. Today, we’re looking for the best Xbox Game Pass game beginning with G.

Contenders – Best Xbox Game Pass Game Beginning With G

One franchise that immediately jumps out to me is Gears of War. Game Pass contains a huge number of these games, in fact, there are 9 separate entries from the Gears of War series. If you enjoy third person shooters with an immersive world and exciting gameplay, you’ll love these. And even if you don’t, you could try Gears Tactics, which is strategy based. The most recent release was Gears 5, which contained lots of fun game modes such as Horde, and Escape. There’s plenty of multiplayer possibility, but you can play single player if you want to.

Sticking with multiplayer options, I have to give a mention to Golf With Your Friends. This kooky title from beloved indie developer Team 17 allows you to play mini golf with your pals. There are a range of courses, each with fun designs, and you can customise the rules until you find something that works for you and your friends. When it first released it was all the rage on Twitch, presumably due to the social nature of it. It can be a little glitchy at times, but overall it’s a wacky little game that’ll provide lots of fun.

Another title worth checking out is Grim Fandango Remastered. Originally released in 1998, this adventure game was really popular amongst gamers. So, in 2015 they released a remastered version of it, bringing back the classic story and gameplay, but with modern graphics, crisper audio, and smoother controls. This is a great choice for fans of the adventure genre. Speaking of adventure games, you could also check out Genesis Noir. This cosmic themed game has a cool plot and great ambience. However, the best Xbox Game Pass game beginning with G is…

Grounded

Developed by Triple A studio Obsidian, Grounded had a smaller budget than most of their projects, but that didn’t stop it from being an amazing game. You play as a human character who finds themselves shrunk to the size of a bug. It’s up to you to navigate your way through the garden, solving quests and defeating enemies.

The game has a heavy focus on crafting, and this element is implemented really well. There are absolutely loads of crafting ingredients for you to discover. This can be by foraging, chopping down things like blades of grass, or body parts left behind by killing bugs. With your ingredients, you can craft new tools, which allows you to get even more items. You unlock new crafting recipes the more you play, and it levels really nicely.

With the items you craft, you can also build elaborate structures. You’ll need to sleep overnight, and you could be attacked if you stay in the open. Having a strong house to come back to at night ensures your safety. It also gives you somewhere to store all your items so they won’t be stolen by pesky bugs. You can really use your imagination when building, and create vast mansions should you want to.

Possibly the best thing about this game, though, is the commitment to the theme. You really do feel like you’re wandering around in a garden, and it’s fascinating seeing the bio-diversity. There are a range of bugs, some which are aggressive, and some which’ll leave you be. The most aggressive are spiders, and the game offers an arachnophobia mode so you can make the spiders appear as amorphous blobs in case you’re scared of them in real life. They’re still terrifying though!
