Best Witchy Games to Play in 2024

Witchy games have cast their spell over the gaming world, drawing on the growing fascination with witchcraft and the mystical arts. In an age where information about the arcane now is just a click away, from YouTube videos to online communities, witchcraft has become more accessible and, at times, commercialised. Despite this, witchy games have a unique way of grounding this burgeoning interest in the rich, often enigmatic traditions of magic and folklore. The best witchy games to play in 2024 explore the roots of witchcraft in a way that transcends the surface-level charms.

These games weave together warmth and wonder with a touch of the mystical and mysterious. They offer an experience for players seeking to immerse themselves in worlds where magic is more than just a passing trend; it’s an intricate part of the narrative. Much like the dark cosy games that add familiar comforts into the undercurrent of unease, witchy games create a space that is both enchanting and thought-provoking.

The Best Witchy Games in 2024 on All Platforms

The bewitching elements of folklore and the temptation of witchcraft come alive in this list of the best witchy games to play in 2024. We’ll guide you through captivating realms filled with spells, secrets, and adventure! Each title offers its own unique take on magic, providing a sense of strangely cosy, eerie wonder that’s sure to captivate seasoned witches, curious novices, and folklore fans alike.

Because these titles aren’t in any particular order, you’ll be able to appreciate the unique experiences they offer. I limited the list to 10 games and tried to choose some that were newer, like REKA, or lesser-known, like Magical Delicacy and BLACKTAIL.

REKA – Harness the Power of Nature

A young girl with a faraway look stands outside a cottage door while summoning magic into her hand in one of the best witchy games in 2024.

Released for Early Access on September 12th, 2024, REKA offers a rich world for those enchanted by exploration, crafting, and a dash of magical mystery. Set deep within autumnal woodlands, you play Reka, who is an apprentice to the legendary Baba Jaga. In addition to your magic, you are gifted a magical chicken-legged cottage that you can fully customise as you travel through the procedurally generated landscapes of forests, swamps, and villages.

REKA offers a gentle, but immersive experience with soothing visuals, plenty of customisation options, and the freedom to explore a world filled with spirits and secrets. It’s perfect for players looking to escape into a magical, personal journey while embracing the hints of danger and intrigue that come with witchcraft. Enjoy foraging for ingredients and taming wild animals in this whimsical, atmospheric adventure.

Magical Delicacy – Secrets Hide in the Shadows of Grat

Flora petting a cat on one of the platforms in Magical Delicacy.

£20.99 on Steam, £22.49 on Switch, £20.99 on Xbox (included on GamePass)

In Magical Delicacy, you play Flora, a young witch eager to master the magical culinary arts. After moving to the lively (and odd) town of Grat, Flora soon gets to work. She opens up her own kitchen after some Tom-Nook-style financing and begins crafting meals and potions for the townsfolk. This delightful game merges cooking with Metroidvania-inspired exploration, offering cosy kitchen management and discovery in a magical world.

As Flora, you can experiment with ingredients to create dishes that cater to even the most peculiar customers, from frog-like creatures to a fussy Princess. The platforming allows you to navigate Grat’s intricate environments and unlock new paths and secrets as you play. My favourite feature is definitely transforming into a cat, but it takes a while to get to that point in the game.

Wylde Flowers – Belongs on Every Cosy Game List Ever Made

Tara stands over a cauldron to create

In Wylde Flowers, you step into Tara’s shoes. Tara is a young woman who moves to a picturesque island to help her grandmother and manage the family farm. What a twist!

With its engaging, fully-voiced characters, Wylde Flowers delivers a heartwarming tale of community, self-discovery, and the interplay between the mundane and mystical. Fairhaven’s detailed world provides a rich narrative experience with a touch of whimsy. Players can enjoy bonding with villagers and transforming into a cat, making it a magical, relaxing escape full of charm and creativity.

Unlike the majority of the best witchy games in 2024 on this list, Wylde Flowers has a cuter design that isn’t likely to give you nightmares.

The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood follows Fortuna, a witch exiled on an asteroid. After 200 years of solitude, she makes a fateful pact with a forbidden entity to regain her freedom and reconnect with her coven. The game unfolds a narrative rich in themes of identity, choice, and destiny, where you use Tarot-like cards to unveil the futures and pasts of other witches. Though it seems like an intriguing concept, in reality, your decisions impact the entire witch society’s future.

This game offers deep, narrative-driven gameplay that includes emotional depth, creative freedom, and even a bit of political intrigue. The stunning pixel art and captivating soundtrack enhance a story where your choices shape others’ fates through the cards you craft. It certainly takes Tarot reading to the next level.

Little Witch in the Woods – The Most Relaxing Game on This List

Another Early Access game, Little Witch in the Woods lets you play as Ellie. This young apprentice is sent to a charming village to complete her witch training. The game features a pixel-art style and revolves around gathering ingredients, brewing potions, and assisting villagers with their troubles. Combining elements of farming sims and life simulation games, it offers a slow-paced, heartwarming adventure focused on the joys of being a witch in a quaint, mysterious village.

I find that the charm of Little Witch in the Woods lies in its focus on exploration and relationship-building. The village and surrounding areas are rich with secrets, from hidden creatures to forgotten spells. The quirky, memorable characters add warmth to the game’s cosy, magical world. For those seeking a more relaxing, enchanting witchy adventure, Little Witch in the Woods is a great choice.

With its mix of dark humour and thoughtful storytelling, Wytchwood is ideal for players who enjoy slow-burn narratives and exploration. Its witchy vibes and charming aesthetic make it a great choice for those eager to dive into a magical world full of curiosities.

BOOK OF HOURS invites you into the quiet life of the last Librarian at the crumbling Hush House. Once a bastion of occult knowledge, it now lies in ruins after a devastating fire. As you restore the library, you’ll rebuild its collection, craft esoteric potions, and unravel the lore of an ancient world. The game’s slower pace could be ideal for those who want to enjoy exploring without the pressures of combat. Players who find joy in piecing together history, guiding others, and growing into their role will love BOOK OF HOURS. If you’re a witchy librarian archetype who delights in quiet contemplation, I’d highly recommend picking up this game.

BLACKTAIL – Feared or Lauded, the Choice Is Yours

In a gloomy forest of dead trees, Yaga stands, staring with her red eyes in one of the best witchy games in 2024.
Yaga stands in a dark forest, her red eyes glowing, in BLACKTAIL.

£24.99 on Steam, £24.99 on Xbox, £24.99 on PlayStation

BLACKTAIL plunges you into a dark journey through Slavic folklore. You play as Yaga, a young girl accused of witchcraft and cast out from her village. As she explores the wilderness, Yaga confronts spirits, monsters, and her own memories to uncover the truth behind her exile. Its dark atmosphere certainly made it one of my top witchy games in 2024.

With a combat system focused on archery and magic, BLACKTAIL combines intense action with a dark mythological narrative. The game’s eerie, beautiful setting will appeal to players who enjoy atmospheric storytelling. The game’s morality system lets players shape whether Yaga becomes a feared witch or a revered guardian of the woods.

“You can’t hide from Baba, Princess.”

Noita – If You Could Destroy Every Pixel, Would You?

An avatar shoots off a round of rose-coloured magic that arches in an incomplete circle around them in Noita, one of the best witchy games in 2024.
An arch of magic sparks off in the air in Noita.

Noita offers a chaotic, unpredictable take on magic where every pixel is simulated. In this roguelite, you explore subterranean realms, using your spells to reshape the environment, fight foes, and uncover secrets. The procedurally generated world reacts dynamically to your spell combinations, whether you’re melting rock or setting skies ablaze.

Noita challenges players with its permanent death system. But, the game’s allure is its ever-changing world and the impact your crafted magic has. For fans of roguelites gameplay, Noita delivers an engaging and innovative experience.

I spent some time on Reddit searching for witchy games, and Noita seems to be a favourite in the genre. Its unique design and numerous hidden secrets are easy to gravitate towards. However, it’s still a pixel game, which not every gamer enjoys.

Black Book – Surrender Yourself to the Dark

Vasilisa stands in a witch's circle with an old man, facing a shadow wolf with glowing, red eyes in Black Book.
A wolf with glowing eyes stares at Vasilisa in Black Book.

£19.99 on Steam, £22.49 on Switch, £20.99 on Xbox, £19.99 on PlayStation

Black Book is a world where folklore and dark magic converge. As Vasilisa, you can explore rural villages, confront demons, and cast powerful spells. Although she is determined to revive her lost love, she must give herself over to darker magics to do so. In a story seeped in Slavic mythology, this card-based RPG weaves a tale of love, sacrifice, and the supernatural.

Subsequently, this one of our witchy games in 2024 is perfect for those who appreciate mythological storytelling. With its dark atmosphere and strategic card-based combat, Black Book rewards thoughtful play in its folkloric world. If you’re a fan of card games, supernatural tales, and ancient lore, Black Book is a must-explore experience you don’t want to miss.

Conclusion

There is mystery afoot in this list of the best witchy games to play in 2024.
