Ingredients Needed: What They Are and Where to Find Them
For this guide, we are looking at one of Genshin Impact‘s simpler recipes. You only need two ingredients to make this dish.
- Fish (x1)
- Mint (x1)
I’ll provide you with various methods to obtain these ingredients below.
Fish
There are multiple different ways that you can get fish for cooking. Some are just easier than others in my opinion. You can snag some fish in one of three ways in Genshin Impact. You can pluck fresh fish right out of the water if and when you come across them. Help the local economy and purchase fish from various shops and restaurants across Teyvat. Lastly, you can “cook” fish you catch with a fishing rod and turn those fish into fish for cooking (the process hurts my brain a little if I think about it too long but I swear it does work). As mentioned, some of these methods are easier than others, but I will outline all three below.
Let’s Go Swimming
Throughout Teyvat there are plenty of places you can find fish in the wild. Most bodies of water you come across during your adventures will have some fish swimming around.
When you see them, you have two options.
- 1) Jump into the water and swim after it until you catch it (you’ll be prompted to catch it once you get close enough). Then once it’s caught it magically turns into what you need for cooking.
- 2) Attack them in the water and then…pick up the pieces.
Now, several recipes in Genshin Impact require fish, so I usually try to catch a few in the wild whenever I can.
Support Your Friendly Neighbourhood NPC
This option is arguably both the easiest and quickest way to get your hands on some fish. There are many shops and restaurants across Teyvat where you can purchase fish. I’ve outlined a few of them within this guide. Some locations are marked on the map, and others are not.
First up is Wanmin Restaurant in Liyue. This place is one of my favourites to get fish (and other ingredients). Mainly because I enjoy Liyue and spend a lot of my time here.
I’ve marked the specific location on the map below.
Secondly, we have Shimura’s in Inazuma. I’m pretty far behind in my Archon Quests so I only recently unlocked Inazuma, but was presently surprised there was a location to purchase fish here.
Shimura’s location in Inazuma City is marked on the map below
Thirdly, we have Lambad’s Tavern in Sumeru. While I haven’t explored much of Sumeru, this location will appear on the map once it’s unlocked.
Lambad’s Tavern is in Sumeru City, I’ve noted the specific location on the map below.
Last, but not least, we have Butrus the Fishmonger in Port Ormos, Sumeru. This location will not show up on your map.
As mentioned, this location does not show up on your map like the other locations will. To hopefully make it easier to find I’ve marked its location on the map below. Butrus’s location is indicated by the star marker.
Hook, Line, and Cook ‘Em
This way is probably the hardest, or at least most time-consuming, to procure fish mainly because you will need to get your hands on a fishing rod first. You can’t do that until you’re at least Adventure Rank 35 or higher, as unlocking fishing in Genshin Impact requires unlocking and completing specific quests. Namely, ‘A Teapot to Call Home’ (which won’t appear until you’re Adventure Rank 35) and the ‘Exploding Population’ quest.
If you have done all that and have a fishing rod, then you can turn the fish you catch with the fishing rod into fish used for cooking. I’d only use this method if I was in desperate need of fish, and I had already purchased all the different types of fishing rods. This is because to purchase better fishing rods from the different regions you pay for them with the fish you catch fishing. That said, since it is a way you can get fish I will outline how to convert caught fish to fish for cooking below.
When you open the cooking menu and tab over it will show you all the different cooking ingredients you can make from the resources you have on hand. If you go to fish, it will show you the breakdown of how many pieces of fish you can get from converting a caught fish to fish for cooking. It will also show you the amount of time it will take to process if you look at the information on the right-hand side of the screen.
Mint
Mint is one of the most widely accessible resources throughout Teyvat. It’s located in almost every corner of the map. While you can obtain mint other ways (expeditions), I would strongly recommend simply just picking it up as you come across it. That said, I will let you know which expeditions you can send characters on if you want some extra mint.
Mint in The Wild
As mentioned above, mint is very easy to find out in the wild. You will come across it during your adventures in most areas on the map. Mint is also used for a variety of different cooking and crafting recipes so it never hurts to have some on hand. Seeing as you don’t have to stop running to gather this herb, I suggest grabbing it as you pass by.
Let Someone Else Do The Heavy Lifting
Currently, you can send characters on expeditions for mint in two regions across Tryvat, Fontaine and Natlan. While this is a legitimate way to get mint, I would not recommend using up an expedition slot specifically for mint. It’s too easily found in the wild to justify in my opinion. That said, if you are running low and want to send a character on an expedition overnight, or simply want to use this method, I’ve outlined the expediations below.
Natlan Recipe Guide: Where to Find It
You can purchase this recipe in the newly released Natlan region from Genshin Impact‘s 5.0 update. Within the Natlan region, one of the main areas for recipes, food, forging and more, is the Stadium of the Sacred Flame. Within the Stadium you will find a restaurant (near the Weary Inn).
The restaurant doesn’t show up on the map itself but you can check out this guide to the Stadium of the Sacred Flame for the specific location. Once there you’ll be able to purchase the recipe for 1250 Mora.
Natlan Recipe Guide – Variations
Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce has three variations including the base dish.
- Delicious Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce
- Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce
- Suspicious Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce
All three variations come from the same recipe and change based on the cooking mini-game, or which character is cooking. This Natlan Recipe Guide will be overviewing all three variations.
Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce
This is the base recipe and can be made by any character. The outcome is solely determined by how well you do within Genshin Impact‘s cooking minigame.
As long as you stop the marker within either pale yellow section shown, you will cook a base Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce dish. The effects of this version are outlined at the beginning of this guide.
Delicious Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce
To create a Delicious Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce you will need up your minigame cooking skills.
The Delicious Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce gives you the highest effects for this recipe.
- Restores 10% of Max HP and an additional 1200 HP to the selected character.
Stopping the marker when it’s in the orange section shown above, will produce a Delicious dish. Stopping the marker within this section also counts as the dish being cooked perfectly. Depending on which character you have cooking, getting perfect in the minigame might also get you some bonuses.
As you can see from the image above, I have three characters that can potentially produce additional items when cooking this particular dish.
- Diona – has a 12% chance to obtain double the product if a recovery dish is cooked perfectly.
- Barbara – has a 12% chance to obtain double the product if a recovery dish is cooked perfectly.
- Hu Tao – has an 18% chance to receive an additional Suspicious dish of the same recipe, if cooked perfectly.
The additional items you can receive will be based on which characters you have unlocked. I’d recommend always taking a look at the character selection before cooking.
Suspicious Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce
You can obtain this version in two ways. The first is in the cooking minigame when you have any character selected to cook.
If you stop the marker anywhere outside the pale yellow or orange areas, you will receive a Suspicious Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce.
The second way to receive this dish comes down to which character is cooking, and what extra rewards they can receive when a dish is cooked perfectly.
For example, if you use Hu Tao for cooking and cook this dish perfectly you’ll receive a Delicious Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce, and have an 18% chance of also getting a Suspicious Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce.
The effects of this variation are less than the base dish.
- Restores 8% of Max HP and an additional 800 HP to the selected character.
Conclusion
Genshin Impact‘s Natlan region has a lot of new things to discover and explore, including a variety of new dishes. This Natlan Recipe Guide outlines just one of many new Natlan recipes you can purchase. Grilled Fish in Mint Sauce is a simple-to-cook recovery dish, and I’d recommend stopping by the Stadium of the Sacred Flame and picking up the recipe.
