Success or Mess – Movies Starting With S

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but it’s time for another Success or Mess quiz! It’s all good and well to have quizzes that test your knowledge, but what about testing your taste? Can you guess how the critics on Rotten Tomatoes rated these movies? I’ve tried to pick a good selection for this one. There are titles from across a whole range of genres. Some are excellent pinnacles of media, others… Less so. How well will you do on this quiz about movies starting with S?

Now, bear in mind that this is based onĀ the overall percentage from the critics. Audience scores are irrelevant to this quiz, so try to think from the perspective of an expert. The classification for success or mess is:

Over 75 = Success

74 or under = Mess

So, with the rules out of the way, I wish you the best of luck! No cheating!

#1. Suicide Squad (2016)

Not to be confused with the brilliant 2021 version, the 2016 version was a hot mess.

#2. Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013)

The Star Trek movies actually worked really well, their big budget meant that the special effects looks awesome.

#3. Super 8 (2011)

I still really need to see this one, I heard it’s great!

#4. Signs (2002)

I remember thinking this film was all the rage when I was a kid. Unfortunately, it seems the critics don’t quite agree, as it narrowly missed out on being a success, with a score of 74%.

#5. Shrek 2 (2004)

One of the very rare cases where the sequel was even better than the original!

#6. Spider-Man 3 (2007)

I don’t understand why this movie gets so much hate, I think it’s brilliant!

#7. Sleepless in Seattle (1993)

This is a success, but only just. It scored exactly 75% on Rotten Tomatoes.

#8. Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)

Interestingly, 93% of users liked this movie, but only 63% of critics. However, I’m sure we can all agree that it was endlessly better for the redesign of Sonic’s character.

#9. Sleeping Beauty (1959)

In real life, if a man kissed a random sleeping woman, it would be assault. But in a Disney movie, 89% of critics love it.

#10. Say Anything (1989)

Even if you’ve never seen the movie, you’ve almost certainly seen a reference to the boom box scene.
