Trash Goblin Buying Guide – All Tools and Decorations

In Trash Goblin, making smart purchases is important to create a cosy, efficient workspace and keep your customers happy. However, with so many options to customise and upgrade your shop, it can be tricky to know where to start. This Trash Goblin buying guide is designed to help players make informed decisions that maximise their gameplay, ensuring your shop is functional as possible while offering you the most for your hard-earned coins.

When you click the button to show what items are available to buy, your screen suddenly becomes full of the white shadows of various decorations. It’s tempting to buy certain items first (like plants and posters), but these aren’t going to help you at the start of the game. If you want to build your shop in a way that’s helpful, but still cosy, keep reading!

There are four sections in your trinket repair and restoration shop, so this Trash Goblin buying guide is split up in the same way. You can use the Trash Goblin item guide below to plan your purchases, which is particularly important in the early game when money doesn’t flow as freely.

If you’ve made your way here without reading my Trash Goblin review, and haven’t purchased the game yet, I highly recommend giving it a read. Trash Goblin is still in Early Access, and I think it’s important for any potential players to understand that. There are some bugs, which can be a bit concerning when they occur in-game, but the devs have created a bug report system on their Discord Server. To join the Discord, navigate to the game’s Steam store listing or just click this permanent link.

This guide isn’t quite complete! I’m still working on adding the upgrades and the available tools.

Work Bench

My Work Space decoration progress.

The Work Bench has the most decorations in Trash Goblin. This is a great space to display your trinkets when you run out of space in your inventory. You’ll find that your inventory maxes out quickly, usually between Day 10 and Day 15. It depends on how many trinket bags you’re working through, but it will happen sooner rather than later.

The Customer Desk has the fewest decorations in the game. But, adding the ones that are available does give you more space for trinkets. Oh, and a candle. Candles are important. There should be more.

Shopkeeper

The Shopkeeper space in Trash Goblin.
Tools or decorations, which will you choose?

Though the Shopkeeper area doesn’t have many decorations, it has a lot of charm and still deserves your attention. Like the Personal Space you’ll read about next in my Trash Goblin buying guide, there are several unique items in this area that don’t appear in the others. You can display trinkets on the Small Cabinet, add a Shabby Lantern to the wall, or go all green-thumb on the space and add a Hanging Plant.

What Decorations to Buy First

Without a doubt, it’s best to buy shelves before any other decoration in Trash Goblin. You only have 18 inventory slots for your trinkets, after all. As you’ll see in my Trash Goblin buying guide, some Small Shelves can be upgraded to Deep Shelves, which are perfect for larger trinkets. Things like the masks and various kitchenware work best on Deep Shelves.

Alternatively, the Basic Table that you can buy in your Work Bench area is large enough to display a few larger trinkets.

After you get more storage sorted, you can go wild and buy whatever you like. Personally, I’m fond of the Hanging Plants. The Nightstand is also a useful place to display a trinket.

Trash Goblin Tool Upgrade Prices

Buying my first tool upgrade for this Trash Goblin item guide.

Eventually, you’ll get a visit from Aimon who lets you know that they got a special item in their delivery. These “special items” are shop tool upgrades, which will allow you to work more efficiently.

ToolWhat it DoesCost
Upcycler – 2 SocketsAllows you to connect three items together rather than two. Free
Upcycler – 3 SocketsAllows you to connect four items together rather than three. 700 Gold

What Tools to Buy First

Sometime around Day 20 or so, you’ll get a visit from Redoir who asks you to put together their tankard. This will require the first Upcycler upgrade (2 Sockets). You’ll need to clean it up and then use your Upcycler – 2 Sockets tool to fix together the handle, lid, and the tankard.

You won’t need the next Upcycler upgrade for a little while, so don’t stress too much about buying tool upgrades in the early game. Instead, focus on buying the shelves that I mention in my Trash Goblin item guide, and decorating your space so you’re happy with it.
