What Your Favourite Brooklyn Nine Nine Character Says About You

Brooklyn Nine Nine is one of the most beloved comedy shows of our generation, and for good reason. With fantastic plots, clever humour, and a colourful cast of characters, the show was bound to gain some traction. But did you know that your favourite character could reveal a lot about your personality? Okay, so I made that up, but I’m going to need you to read this article under the premise that it’s true. Now, I know there are a whole host of side characters, but we’re gonna focus specifically on the main cast. Okeydokey, let’s see what your favourite Brooklyn Nine Nine character says about you!

Jake Peralta

Two things. Number one: Ya basic. Number two: You’re not wrong. Jake is the lovable goofball that every comedy show needs. If Jake appeals to you, then congratulations, you have similar taste to most people, and that’s not a bad thing. Being a contrarian is overrated, and who wants to be the grumpasaurus that dislikes someone as sweet and bubbly as Jake? Sure, he’s got the emotional maturity of a 12 year old, and so it’s likely you do too, but adulthood is tough and we all need our escapes.

Jake is driven, and motivated, and you like to see yourself that way too. People accuse you of being a child, but you’re just doing things in your own style. Not everything has to be boring just because you’re an adult. At the end of the day, Jake is good at what he does, and I think it’s healthy to have fun whilst getting the job done. Embrace your inner child, embrace the Jake love.

I know you read that in his voice.

Amy Santiago

Your favourite Harry Potter character is Hermione, and you think Leslie from Parks and Recreation is a feminist icon (you’re right). Let’s face it, the only ones who really appreciate people like that are other people like that. You tend to overthink everything, and you can be pretty uptight sometimes, but you don’t want to be that way. People tend to tease you, and much as you wish it didn’t get to you, it does. You try to fit in with them, but you always end up as the outsider. You’re sensitive without being openly emotional, and you care really deeply about a lot of things. People think you’re obsessive and weird, but really you’re just passionate. You’ve tried being loosey-goosey, and it just didn’t stick. But hey, that’s okay! The world needs people like Amy Santiago. The world needs people like you.

She’s such a dork, but I love her.

Charles Boyle

You have biiig Hufflepuff energy, but I’m meaning that as a compliment. Boyle is the best hype man ever, and I think everyone needs a friend like him. If your favourite Brooklyn Nine Nine character is Boyle, then you value loyalty above all else. And it’s quite possible you don’t feel appreciated enough by your own friends (that’s right, I’m not afraid to get real). Boyle represents the unconditional support that you wish you could have. Either that, or you have an amazing friend who reminds you of Boyle, and you love them so much that when you see Boyle, you think of that friend.

He’s also something to aspire to. Boyle often gets mocked, but you know what? He’s probably the best person in the show. Not necessarily the best character (although you obviously think so), but the person who has the best moral values. Boyle is loving, selfless, and unapologetically open about his feelings. If more men were like him, then the world would be a better place. And you recognise that, which makes you a good person too! Just don’t let people take advantage of your kindness.

Rosa Diaz

You’re cool. Or at least, you think you’re cool, and that’s really all that matters. Rosa has a tough, no-nonsense attitude, and you find that empowering. Nobody could get away with being like that in real life, but Brooklyn Nine Nine doesn’t have to abide by such strict rules. It’s a show, and so it can get away with a bit of surrealism. In real life, if you smashed a work computer because you got angry, you’d be fired, but Rosa stays. And you think that’s awesome.

You’re a bit of an anarchist (ironic, really, that you like a show about police). You see rules as being there to be broken, and you look out for number one. People who meet you might find you a bit cold, but once they get to know you, they’ll realise you’ve got a sensitive side. You believe in honesty, and once you’ve grown to care for someone, you’re as loyal as they come.

I would not want to get on the wrong side of Rosa.

Captain Holt

You little nerd. Don’t try to deny it, we both know it’s true. You see Holt obsessing over grammar and numbers, and your heart leaps for joy. Order is what you live for. Other people may think you’re a bit boring, but it’s just because they don’t understand. You find the excitement in the little things, if anything, they’re the boring ones. You’re confident and organised, without being as over the top as Santiago. Instead, you like to keep it chill, whilst still being alert and present in the moment. People think you’re great under pressure, but really it stresses you out. You only seem calm because in your head you’re always under pressure.

Holt’s stoicism is comforting to you because you don’t believe in expressing emotions in public. You’re a complicated, nuanced person, but not everybody has to know that. Your feelings are your own, and you like to keep them that way. However, there are a select number of people that you trust enough to let your guard down around. You love deeply, even if you don’t always show it, and much as you enjoy your own company, you’d hate to be alone forever. Also, I’m pretty certain that your favourite movie franchise is Star Wars.

Terry Jeffords

Terry looooves yoghurt, and so do you. You think its creamy goodness is underappreciated, and you’re glad to see it finally getting the recognitions it deserves. It amuses you when he talks in third person, because you like a bit of ridiculousness in your characters. Terry is a breath of fresh air, and we love to see his unique brand of wholesome masculinity. He’s a huge, muscly guy who practically lives in the gym, but he’s also a doting father who will happily engage in ‘girly’ activities if it’ll make his kids happy. He couldn’t care less about gender roles, he’s just unapologetically himself, and that warms your heart. You think society places too many restrictions on who you’re expected to be, and seeing a buff guy like Terry being so open about his feelings makes you feel more able to express yourself.

Understatement.

Hitchcock and Scully

Really? A whole cast of awesome characters and these two are your favourite? I guess there’s no accounting for taste. Also, I’m lumping them together into one character because let’s face it, they don’t work on their own. You probably think Mr Bean is the height of comedy, and you prefer shows that don’t make you think too hard. You like nice, simple comedy that gives you a quick laugh in the moment. You don’t have the patience for long, drawn out jokes, or for social commentary. And that’s not inherently a bad thing, there’s nothing wrong with preferring the easy things in life.

You can also relate to their obsession with food. In fact, you’re probably eating a snack as you’re reading this. Whilst everyone else on Brooklyn Nine Nine is running around doing their actual work like a schmuck, Hitchcock and Scully just laze around doing nothing but eating. That’s basically the dream as far as you’re concerned. You live life in the present, and don’t care for ambitiousness. You just want to be happy, and I can’t fault you for that.

Their friendship is just adorable.

Gina Linetti

You need therapy. I mean, let’s face it, everyone in the Gen Z and Millennial generations needs therapy, but you need it specifically because your choices are terrible. You also might be a sociopath. I know this is hard for you to hear, but I’m saying this for your own good. Gina is not ‘an icon’. She is not ‘goals’. She is not ‘a mood’. Gina is awful. She is a selfish, annoying, problematic woman, who brings down everyone around her. I’m not saying that those traits are true for you, I’m just saying they’re not something to aspire to.

The chances are, you’re actually a really fun, caring person. But for some reason you see toxicity as something positive and funny, and we need to address that. You probably have people in your life who remind you of Gina, and you’re desperate to make excuses for them. But you deserve better! Set boundaries, and seek out friends who uplift you. You’ve got this, you’re gonna be just fine. But seriously, pick a new favourite character, liking Gina is not a personality trait.

How can she be so awful, yet think so highly of herself?

Not to be rude or anything but I feel like its kinda biased, like I love Gina and shes my favourite character but that doesnt mean I have someone toxic in my life or that I find mean and rude people funny, people have different opinions, and Gina is just like that because its her sense of humour and shes just joking, she not selfish or awful, she just jokes around with her friends, who shes always there for and loves strongly, so no Im not picking a new favourite character. Once again no offence just thought it was biased, everyone has their own opinion.
